Anyways, last sunday, I was finally able to make it up to Edmonton to go get him after finally egtting the call on friday saying he was ready to be adopted. I was expecting to go on tuesday, but I decided to skip field hockey (as that was my only commitment on the weekend) and head up a couple days early.
I got there maybe 20 mins after they were open, but it was so busy already! I ended up having to wait almost 2 hours to see him (because of all the other people in front of me). We brought up one of my dogs (my bf's dog actually, mine couldn't make the trip because he gets car anxiety) and did the meet and greet. Gunner was a little mean towards Tali, and I was worried that because of that, they wouldn't give him to me. But they did. I went to the pet store the have in the building and got each dog an 'easy walker' (which is fucking amazing for dogs that pull!! like omg I actually enjoy taking Kiba for a walk now!), and Gunner a nice green leash and collar set while they finished up the rest of the paperwork.
Paperwork was done, and I went to go pay the adoption fee for him. Paid that, also bought 2 framed photographs of some Ospreys (all proceeds went towards the society) of $170, and also donated $200 towards them (in Gunner's name.
The following wednesday, we took him, Tali, and Kiba all to the pet store and got $200 of food and toys (and a couple treats). I'll be going again on wednesday for more of Tali's food (she eats a different brand than the boys because I'm guessing she was allergic) and for Gunner to visit people more.
That said, we called EHS back (after getting back in town) and pretty much told them what the vet told us, what the work done was sloppy and that they should stitch it back up and pretty much fix it. And I was very disappointed when they pretty much shrugged me off.... I told them the soonest I'd be able to make another trip up is the following sunday, and they said by sunday it's be all healed by then. Well yes, it MIGHT be healed by then, but there's also a chance it could get infected by then and go bad... Luckily though the vet prescribed a few extra days of the antibiotics because he didn't think EHS gave me enough (as well as the pain killers), and I honestly think that because of the extra meds and me cleaning it after each feeding, is why I haven't had any problems as of yet.
Well a week's past, no problems with his mouth or leg...er....stump... .___.' and he's been nothing by happy gummy smiles!
Him and Tali actually get along pretty well (which is what I was worried about), they seem to love to play while I'm trying to sleep. Kiba and him just ignore each other and don't really care, Kiba will sometimes be a dick and bark/yell at him if he walks by him too close... what a bitch he is sometimes.... And other than that, all is well.
I called the vet back just now asking to refill the prescription, because I rather be safe than sorry and just keep him on the antibiotics a little longer for his gums.
Monday I took off to be with him, spent the day with him. Tuesday, my bf had off to spend with the dogs.... I guess he didn't bother to REALLY read the instructions I left for him in regards to their food when feeding.. and mainly, when I told him "LOCK GUNNER IN THE BATHROOM BEFORE YOU LEAVE FOR YOUR DR APPT!!".... Like it's just common sense... If we can't trust your dog we've had for over 7months, to be on her own in the house.... What makes you think that we can trust a farm dog who's been living on his own for god knows how long, to run around the house when he's been trying to get at my ferret in the two days we've had him?!? Like seriously!! I've been working on training Tali so she doesn't have to be put away in a kennel for when we leave for work, so why would you let a new dog of two days run around...... Needless to say.... tuesday night was a disaster when we got home.... Came home to see a note from my mom saying there was a loud bang, and he had blood all over him.....
My heart sank because I knew he had ripped down Pabu's cage sitting just behind the couch (he's been trying to get at him right from the start, it's pretty obvious he has a high prey drive, probably from when he had to fend for himself and hunted like things). Checked Pabu, he was ok, but scared as fuck. Wally was missing, but eventually found him too, also unharmed. Clean up took a while as there was tons of shavings and litter everywhere, and had to give Gunner another bath as he was covered in crusted cat litter (that mixed with some spilled water), and the blood came from him tearing a couple sutures from his mouth.
He's so super friendly, cuddly, and just loves people (especially me, he'll only ever seem to listen to me when I call for him). There is no way a dog like this would run away... so my guess if that he was abandoned at the side of the highway... EHS said that when they tried to get a hold of an owner, they would call one person, "oh I gave him to so and so", "Oh I gave him to ____", etc etc... and it was pretty obvious that he was just tossed around him home to home... Poor guy... He's really smart and caring, and really just deserves some love.
And I really can't thank you all enough for what you've done for him! I'm sure he really appreciates it too, finally being able to be in a family that cares for him! THANK YOU!!!
